Narrative Text Analysis

Narrative text analysis sebenarnya lebih dikenal dalam dunia per"narrative"an sebagai narrative analysis, sebuah study of any narrative texts. Umumnya, narrative analysis ini dimanfaatkan oleh para peneliti di berbagai bidang, seperti Sociologi, Psikologi, Ilmu Politik, Antropologi, Pendidikan, Kesehatan dan lain sebagainya. Dengan kata lain, narrative text analysis ini adalah pelajaran "tingkat dewa" yang selayaknya belum pantas diajarkan di tingkat menengah pendidikan di Indonesia.

Nyatanya, banyak siswa SMP atau SMA yang mencari tahu analisa teks narratif sebuah cerita bahasa Inggris. Hal ini mungkin dikarenakan bapak/ibu guru bahasa Inggris mewajibkan mengerjakan tugas tersebut. Hohoho. . tugas bahasa Inggris sekarang memang keren :)

Kembali ke pembahasan awal.... Jika memang narrative text analysis yang dimaksud bukan narrative analysis yang sering digunakan oleh para peneliti, berarti narrative text analysis yang sering ditugaskan guru adalah mencari tahu generic structure sebuah narrative text, iya kan? Jika benar demikian, pembahasan mengenai narrative analysis bisa sangat mudah kita pelajari.

Misalnya saja, kita ingin menganalisa generic structure narrative text sebuah cerita di bawah ini :

A simple narrative text analysis

John slumped in the armchair, his arms crossed and his face with a gloomy frown. He was a new kid in town, but no-one knew he was even there. John didn't like anybody and they didn't like him. All day he sat in the armchair, staring out the window.

Through the window he saw a gigantic hollow tree in vacant lot. The tree seemed to call him. He stood slowly up, then started to walk towards the tree. Its branches were very thin and its roots dug into the ground like claws. The tree had thorns all over it. John tried to turn away from the tree but he couldn't. A mysterious force was pulling him into the hollow.

John never reappeared; but no-one noticed or cared.

Nah, jika kita telah mengetahui bahwa narrative purpose is to present a view of the world that entertains or informs the listener or reader. The response text type is a person’s response or action to another text (a book, film, play, and so on). The generic structures of the text are orientation, complication, resolution. The language features usually found in narrative text are specific characters, time words that connect events to tell when they occur, verbs to show the actions that occur in the story, and descriptive words to portray the characters and settings, kita akan dengan sangat mudah menemukan dan bahkan menganalisa generic structure dari cerita si John di atas. Berbeda lagi jika narrative text analysis yang dimaksud adalah narrative analysis yang menjadi utilitas para peneliti, pembahasannya mungkin tidak akan semudah ini. 

Oleh karena itu, sobat sobit semua harus bersyukur bila sudah mampu mengetahui cara menganalisa narrative text seperti pada contoh di atas; karena nanti "pada saatnya" hal ini bisa sangat berguna bagi kehidupan berbangsa dan bertanah air... hohoho, apa hubungannya ya dengan narrative text analysis??
